Big Sweet Barney needs a forever home ASAP!  Contact AWHARfoster@yahoo.com He is a great dog and best friend, who has had a hard time. Barney is looking for a final permanent forever home, but most of all he is looking for one Best Friend! He is a Mastiff mix and weighs in at 90 lbs. He personality is very much that of a Mastiff.  He is a friendly and loyal to his owners, a bit reserved with new people. He is large so he has a big booming bark, but does not bark much.  His personality is also described as ALERT, goofy, a little unsure, loyal, and cuddly.  He is soon your best friend with big lick to give you a KISS on the face.  He loves to ride in cars and go for ice cream. Good rider. Great on the leash. He LOVES to play ball in the yard and cuddle on the sofa or floor with you! Barney has had a tough time since he was a pup and his is a sad story. He was originally rescued at six months old by an elderly couple who saw him lying in the street after being hit by a car with a broken leg! His leg was operated on and healed but he recovery was tough in boarding. He was one of many dogs who ran loose in a bad neighborhood. Due to the couple’s age, they could not care for him, and he has been in the “rescue system” since then-being bounced from place to place, in kennels and crated most of his days. He was in foster care for over a year. He then got a wonderful (we thought) permanent home, but they divorced two months ago, the house was sold, and he had to go!  Through NO FAULT of his own he is now without a home or owner.  He felt ABANDONED, and was emotionally confused. However, he is coming around, great spirits, and is open to beginning a new chapter with a new family-could this be YOU?

Barney requires someone with large-dog skilled handler experience and:

  1. Big Fenced yard as he LOVES to be outside! Loves the sun. He is NOT a jumper but 6 foot a must. He is tall.
  2. Barney can be the only dog OR with other dog friendly dogs.  He does have several dog friends, and best friend is a girl bull dog, but like people, one never knows.   The fosters are open to dog introductions for interested adopters
  3. A Mastiff Lover or BIG dog owner who appreciates his size, deep voice, regal demeanor, and yet ready to accept an unexpected lick in the face!  Also, a strong leader is a must!  He wants and needs to be told what to do.
  4. Semi-quiet environment.  Huge parties and social situations make him nervous, too much stimuli.
  5. Low exercise requirements.  He does not enjoy walking too much because he was hit by the car. But loves to ride, and ride well.  You get lots of looks when this handsome boy sticks his out the window!

The trainer couple who are both certified excellent dog trainers, are committed to assisting his new family (hoping soon) to help with the adjustment. Why don’t the trainers or fosters just keep him? Unfortunately, they cannot but it is not due to him. They have 3 dogs now.  Plus, they relocate often due to military commitment and are limited to dog size and they cannot always provide a yard. He needs a yard. Barney is a great dog with a loving heart! All the neighbors know him, and the kids walk by and enjoy saying “Hi Barney” to watch his ears perk up!
